Is Fish Oil Good for Dogs?

Are you feeding your dog fish oil? We know that we humans need our omega-3′s, and so many of us take fish oil supplements and/or eat lots of fish. Some of us even buy our milk and yogurt with fish oil added to it. At first glance, this presents itself as disgusting, but yet we do it, all for the sake of those magical omega-3 fatty acids.

But what about our dogs? Some veterinarians are now recommending that dog parents give their dogs fish oil supplements. Of course, ask your own trusted veterinarian before making any change to your dog’s diet, but you might specifically ask if this is something you should be doing, particularly if your dog suffers from allergies.

Fish oils can also be used to treat arthritis, kidney disease, and high cholesterol. Omega-3′s are also believed to help prevent cancer in dogs. Fish oils are sometimes even used to treat a dog’s mental health. You might laugh, but ask Orville — sometimes a guy can get pretty down in the dumps, no matter how perfect his life is.
