Pets are a wonderful addition to any family. To some, they become almost like another one of the kids. To others, they are an integral part of survival. They become peopleâs eyes, help individuals with disabilities and are part of any good police force. Surely, any person would want to do everything possible to ensure that these loving animals have the easiest life possible.
Many people think that going to the veterinarian for regular check-ups is the only thing they can do to aid in keeping their pup healthy. While this is a very important part of caring for your animal, there is more you can do to help your dog get the best out of life. Our goal is to keep your companionâs sick visits to a minimum. Letâs face it, no one LIKES going to the vet.
My Pet Has Hip Dysplasia
One of the biggest problems seen by animal doctors is canine hip dysplaisa. This illness can be caused by; enviornmental factors, it can be an inherited trait and we are just now learning it may have something to do with the enviornment the dog lives in. This ailment is the cause of massive amounts of pain and soreness in dogs and if not treated can even lead to dislocation.
Another problem regularly seen by the staffs at veterinary clinics across the country is rheumatoid arthritis. What happens during this type of ailment is that the inflammatory cells begin to release enzymes that wear down the cartilage and bones of the puppies. This will eventually cause stiffness of joints, pain and a decreased ability to move around.
So what is a pet owner to do knowing that these problems may await part of their family?
Fortunately there are some things that you can do to both prevent these things from happening or treat them if they have already become a problem. Diet, exercise and eating nutritiously are all great places to start. However, these are only minor fixes to the problem and can only do so much on their own.
Fish oil is an extremely useful supplement for both of these ailments. It helps because Omega-3 fatty acids aid in reducing inflamation. The research that has been done on using fish oil for rheumatoid arthritis is particularly convincing. It showed that dogs were able to walk better, rise to a standing position easier and even became more playful within just a couple of months after beginning the supplement.
When giving your companion any supplement, make sure that you are using the right amount. The bigger the animal, the higher the dosage. You also may need to administer the supplement more often if  he is on the higher end of the scale.
Another important tid-bit to remember is that just because you take it, doesnât mean your pup should. Make sure that the fish oil supplements that you are giving your canine are either specially made for canines, or are extra strength tablets. The tablets made for humans are usually at much too low a dosage for your pet and you will end up giving them about 10 a day.
The bottom line is to do your research and make the best decision for you and your pet. There is no risk and a lot of reward when it comes to adding an Omega-3 supplement into your dogâs diet.
